How to grow
I have a Grow-At-Home kit. Now what do I do?
Check out our how-to videos on the grow kit instructions page.
How to prepare
Do I need to wash my mushrooms?
Nope! Just wipe them off with a paper towel and cut off the lower quarter of the stem.
What are some tasty dishes I can make with mushrooms?
We love adding mushrooms to a stir fry, ramen soup, adding them to a sauce over meat or tofu, as a side dish by sautéing them with butter and salt, scrambling them into breakfast tacos, and folding them into omelettes. We have also made mushroom pickles and dehydrated them into chips.
We often look for free recipes online and then experiment from there. Have fun with it! We are preparing a mushroom recipe page for this site, so when you find your family's favorite, please send it along to us so that we can share it with other mushroom fans! :)

Can I eat these raw?
We highly recommend cooking mushrooms for the best experience.
Can I dehydrate mushrooms in my oven?
Yes, it's really easy! Preheat your oven to 150 F. Slice your mushrooms into similar sized pieces, about 1/4 inch. Arrange the sliced mushrooms on a baking tray and bake in the oven for about one hour, turn all the slices over, and then bake for another hour. Let the mushrooms cool before testing them to see if they are completely dry. If not dry, keep heating them at low temps in the oven for another 30 minutes. If they are dry, you can store them in an air-tight glass jar. The dehydrated mushrooms will keep for about a year, especially if stored in a dark, cool pantry.
To rehydrate, allow the dried mushrooms to sit in boiling water for 15 minutes. Use the newly rehydrated mushrooms in your next cooked meal and, for an extra dose of umami, consider using the soaking liquid as a savory flavor in a soup or sauce.
Pro tip: You can make mushroom chips with shiitakes by slicing them to 1/8th inch, dehydrating them, and salting them. Delicious!
How long will my mushrooms stay fresh?
Mushrooms don't like heat. If you refrigerate them, they will keep for up to two weeks if loosely wrapped in plastic or paper in the crisper. They can also be pressed or dehydrated in advance for longer shelf life. If they can't all fit in your refrigerator, they will also do ok in a cool location out of the sun.
